The Wuppertal Suspension Railway (Wuppertaler Schwebebahn) is the oldest electric elevated railway with hanging cars in the world that opened in Wuppertal on March 1, 1901. Operated by Wuppertaler Stadtwerke (WSW) or its subsidiary WSW mobil, the elevated railway is a symbol of the city and has been a listed building since May 26, 1997.
