Yucca Gigantea is native to Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Mexico. It is also known as the spineless yucca. The flower is the national flower of El Salvador. The species can be grown in a variety of soils, and can be used used as houseplants. The name was first mentioned by Eduard von Regel in 1859. It is evergreen and grows to around 15 feet tall. In the wild the flowers are picked for consumption, or for sale in local markets for use in the making of soup The plant can used as hedges and requires a sunny position sheltered from the cold.
