Surviving Chernobyl's liquidators, who helped contain the Chernobyl nuclear disaster 24 years ago, attend on December 14, 2010 a commemoration ceremony in Kiev at the Chernobyl memorial decorated with pictures of dead liquidators. Ukraine marks on December 14 the Chernobyl Liquidators Memory Day to pay homage to those who died and survivors who helped contain the Chernobyl nuclear catastrophe. The memorial day has been observed since December 14, 1986 after the construction of a sarcophagus to cover the destroyed fouth reactor was completed.
