Sir Barnes Neville Wallis, English aeronautical designer, c 1960s.

UNITED KINGDOM - SEPTEMBER 28: Photographed at home with his wife Molly, Sir Barnes Neville Wallis (1887-1979) is English aeronautical designer and inventor of the bouncing bomb. Wallis designed for Vickers the R100 airship, but this development ended in Britain when the R101 crashed, so Wallis began producing aircraft designs which combined lightness with strength, and applied this to the 'Wellesley', and the 'Wellington' bombers. With the success of his bouncing bomb, Wallis was allowed by the authorities to produce heavy, penetration bombs - the 'Tallboy' and 'Grand Slam'. (Photo by SSPL/Getty Images)
