Philippine officials on June 27 suspended recovery operations at a sunken ferry containing hundreds of dead bodies after learning it was carrying large amounts of highly toxic pesticide. The health department identified the chemical as endosulfan, a restricted pesticide. Health Secretary Francisco Duque ordered the divers to be tested as a precaution. "There are now efforts to assess exposures of divers and possible illness in case there was endosulfan exposure," Duque added.
