Manila, PHILIPPINES: Leftist protesters including one using mock binoculars, picket outside the US embassy in Manila, 27 April 2007. The demonstrators accused the US government of trying to spirit out of the Philippines US Marine Lance Corporal Daniel Smith, who is detained at the mission while launching an appeal on his life sentence for the rape of a Filipina woman. Smith, was discharged from the Asian Hospital and Medical Center in Muntinlupa, where he had undergone surgery only the day before, an official said.
