Sydney, AUSTRALIA: A Jewish synagogue (R) and home belonging to Rabbi Wernick (L), the scene of vandalism on 30 July in Parramatta, Western Sydney, are shown 31 July 2006. Witnesses told police they saw a group of "Middle Eastern men" laughing and running down the street shortly after the synagogue and cars were stoned late on 30 July. Australian police said 31 July, they had stepped up patrols of Jewish and Islamic sites, fearing racial tensions over the conflict in the Middle East had triggered the attack.
