Ex female fighters of the New Forces (FN
Ex female fighters of the New Forces (FN), part of an association called "Groupe Soutra", prepare attieke (a fermented cassava flour) on August 15, 2008 in Bouake. On May 2, the former FN rebel group relaunched a programme to disarm 36,000 of its troops. It marked the first stage in the disarmament process that is part of the March 2007 peace deal -- partly brokered by Burkina Faso -- between the FN rebels and Ivory Coast President Laurent Gbagbo. The United Nations' peacekeeping mission in Ivory Coast said on August 16, 2008 it will finance "1,000 microprojects" to rehabilitate the country's ex-fighters.
