JERUSALEM, -: Citizens look on as municipality employees carry the coffin of former Jerusalem Mayor Teddy Kollek from Safra Square at the municipality before the start of his funeral procession 04 January 2007, through the city of Jerusalem. Theodor 'Teddy' Kollek, a top figure in the Israeli Labour party and former mayor of Jerusalem for almost 30 years, died 02 January 2007 in Jerusalem aged 95, Israeli public radio reported. Born in 1911 in Austria, Kollek immigrated to British-mandated Palestine in 1935, aged 29. During the first Israeli-Arab war after the creation of Israel in 1948, Kollek bought weapons for the Jewish paramilitary organisation Haganah and formed bonds with Jewish figures in the United States who later became Jerusalem's main financial donors.
