An official check underneath a car suspected of dripping oil on the track during a 'Robot Racing' -robots is a local reference to traffic lights in South Africa- event at Killarney race track, on May 25, 2016, about 20 Km from the centre of Cape Town. The cars 'burn up', spinning the wheels while the car is still stationary churning up dust and smoke to warm up the tyres, to increase traction, and show off and please the crowd. This event was established to try and provide members of the public with a space to race their own cars, as opposed to illegal street racing which is not uncommon in Cape Town. The race, over a quarter of a mile, or about 400 metres, is in a straight line, with the cars taking between 9 and 15 seconds to finish it.
