Everyday tasks of the Kabyles in the past, chromolithograph, 1888 - stock illustration

Historical interior view of a residential building as well as various everyday tasks of the Kabyles - a Berber subgroup living in northeast Algeria. Nostalgic scenes from the past: Animal husbandry and storage containers, pottery crafts, everyday houseworks and blacksmith works. Blue-green tattoos on the face, forearms, wrists and calves were culturally anchored, mainly among Berber women, until the 20th century and are now only seen on older women. In the center of the illustration you can see the spiritual characters, traditional symbols and ornaments.
