A New Mural Celebrating St Patrick Is Unveiled In Loyalist Belfast

The mural was designed by renowned artist Ross Wilson who has re-imagined former paramilitary murals in loyalist heartlands as part of an image transformation to remove sectarian imagery with the view to a more inclusive future for both the Roman Catholic and Protestant communities in Belfast. The portraits of Saint Patrick featured on the mural are local school children's interpretations of the saint who converted Ireland to Christianity and who is celebrated as the patron saint of Ireland on the 17th of March, St. Patrick's Day, which is said to be the date of his death in the early part of the fifth century.
