Hundreds carry torches in nighttime Nagasaki procession held on anniversary of city’s atomic bombing

Video footage taken on the evening of Aug. 9 in Nagasaki shows a torchlight procession from Urakami Cathedral to the Peace Park on the 73rd anniversary of the atomic bombing of the city. About 800 torches were lit for the 800-meter procession joined mostly by Roman Catholics. Amid the procession was a palanquin bearing the “Bombed Mary,” the head portion of a Virgin Mary statue which was destroyed in the bombing.
