Gerrishon Ikiara, lecturer on international economics at the University of Nairobi, has welcomed the principle of pursuing shared growth through consultation and collaboration. Speaking to Xinhua in a recent interview, he says it represents a vision for promoting international cooperation which will create a win-win situation. I think he (the Chinese president) has not just preached it but he has practiced it all over, if you look at the mega projects that China is involved in. China may play a role of initiating an idea or a strategy but immediately involves other countries both in financing implementation and other aspects." According to Ikiara, the principle is closely related to the Belt and Road Initiative, which was proposed by China in 2013. The initiative, he says, has offered new opportunities in connectivity and economic integration between China and the rest of the world.
