Jeremy Corbyn MP (Leader of the Opposition) interview SOT
- I did my best to put across our policies in the referendum campaign/
- my view is we accept the decision and try to get the best arrangements we can for economic relatinships with Europe/
- re split in Labour vote/
- re accusation that his campaign was lukewarm/
- we've got to reach out to communities that feel let down by Britain and Europe/
- (are you goin to resign?) no, I'm carrying on, making the case for unity and what Labour can offer to Britain - we have to get the trade issue right/
- (should there be a general election?) British people need stability right now/ need a plan for negotiation from this government/
- we are setting out an agenda of our demands/ may be a general election after new Tory leader elected, I don't know/
- referendum was partly a vote against alientation and the failure of our political system/
- (re vote of no confidence against him) is it really a good idea to start a big debate in the Labour Party when I was elected less than a year ago?
- Labour Party will come together around interests of workers' rights and justice and opposing austerity/
- ( do you really ever want to be Prime Minister?) of course I want to lead this party in order to put forward an alternative and win an election as soon as it comes
- (interviewer prompts Corbyn to say I want to be Prime Minister') I've just said it to you, this isn't a school game/ I'm leading this party to win an electino and therefore I will be Prime Minister to do that, thank you /
