Mr. Mayor: ‘Due Process for All Immigrants’, City Hall - NYC

NEW YORK, NY – JUNE 01, 2018: The New York Immigration Coalition, immigration partners, and affected individuals gathered on the steps of City Hall in downtown Manhattan. Per the NYIC press release: “ The Mayor’s [NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio] proposed city budget underfunds adult education programs, eliminates due process from immigration legal services, and fails to allocate to underserved Black Immigrant Communities. NYC has 3.3 million immigrants, who contribute $8 billion in taxes and make up the city’s unique cultural and social fabric.” Demonstrators demand: For Mayor de Blasio: a) Remove limitations on legal services funding based on client’s circumstances; b) Restore funding to Adult Literacy c) Make sure all communities are supported equally; d) Allocate funding during this budget cycle to support Black led and Black immigrant serving organizations to match support given to other communities; e) Create a coordinated health care access program for the city's uninsured residents.
