Timelapse video shows construction of world’s third highest double-curvature arch dam

ARTVIN, TURKEY - FEBRUARY 2013 / MAY 2021: The body construction of the world’s third highest double-curvature arch dam on the Coruh River in Artvin Province with a height of 275 meters, has been completed, said Turkey's General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSI) on Monday (May 31). Yusufeli Dam in northeastern Turkey, one of the prestigious projects of the country and built with the hard work of Turkish engineers and workers, has reached 4 million 61 thousand cubic meters of body volume, according to the 26th Regional Directorate of DSI. The energy breaker pool, tailwater dam concrete manufacturing and electromechanical equipment works continue in Turkey’s highest double-curvature arch dam. River dredging has also started. Water retention is planned at the end of the year at the dam. Producing an average of 1 billion 888 million kilowatt-hours of energy per year with an installed power of 558 megawatts, the dam will contribute 1.65 billion liras to the economy. It will also increase the energy production of other dams in the Coruh river basin by 10 percent. The groundbreaking ceremony of the Yusufeli Dam was held on Feb. 26, 2013, with the attendance of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during his prime ministry via a video conference.
