KATHIE LEE GIFFORD, co-host: Hey, everybody. We're so glad you're with us for another manic Funday. HODA KOTB, co-host: Yes, it is. GIFFORD: This one's April 12th. We're going to have a ball today. We just decided that we're--it's all about attitude. KOTB: Yeah, we don't care if it's Monday and people are cranky. GIFFORD: Yes. KOTB: Because we're not. We're not cranky. GIFFORD: Regardless of how much sleep one had over the weekend. KOTB: Or didn't. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD, co-host: You--the minute we finished our show on Friday, you were off to LA. HODA KOTB, co-host: I had to fly to... GIFFORD: You had a good reason. KOTB: Yeah. I had to fly to LA. I'm doing a"Dateline" on Michael Buble. GIFFORD: Right. KOTB: So the deal was you take the plane, you go to LA, you land and then the concert starts in LA. So I got to see... GIFFORD: At the Staples Center, right? KOTB: At the Staples Center. I got to see Michael Buble in concert. Genius, brilliant. GIFFORD: He's a great showman. KOTB: So terrific. GIFFORD: Yeah. 10:00:43 STILL: Kotb and Gifford voice over a still of singer Michael Buble singing on stage, as confetti pours down around him. KOTB: And I've got to tell you, I got so--I cried through two of the songs. This--listen. Listen to this one. Crank it up. GIFFORD: Say please, Hoda. 10:00:50 AUDIO CLIP: Michael Buble sings over a still shot of himself singing at a concert. KOTB: This is my favorite, this line right here. (Singing) If you'd just stay, I'd subtract 20 years from my life. I was blubbering like a baby. The reason, I was fatigued, but it was also a beautiful concert. GIFFORD: I was exhausted. KOTB: I was exhausted and I interviewed him after the show. I think we have a couple pictures of him and his agent. 10:01:12 STILL: Kotb and Gifford voice over a still shot of Kotb seen with Buble. GIFFORD: So it's about 3:00, you're getting a little cozy with the Buble. KOTB: He's engaged, by the way. GIFFORD: I know. KOTB: And his agent, Liz Rosenberg, was there, too. 10:01:17 STILL: Kotb and Gifford voice over a still shot of Kotb seen with Buble's agent Liz Rosenberg. GIFFORD: Liz Rosenberg. Yes. KOTB: So we were just all hanging out. GIFFORD: Taking a little--taking a little breather from Madonna to work with the Buble Man. KOTB: Yes. Yes. How was your weekend? GIFFORD: It was good. KOTB: Yeah? GIFFORD: It was crowded. It was a lot--a lot of Tiger... KOTB: Yeah. GIFFORD: ...and a lot of the Masters. KOTB: Did you watch the Masters? GIFFORD: I watched most of it with Frank. KOTB: Uh-huh. GIFFORD: Yeah, because he always--he says, `You never do anything with me.' All right. I'll watch a couple of holes, you know. I got--it got very compelling. KOTB: What did you think, watching him? GIFFORD: Well, I'm thrilled, thrilled that Phil Mickelson won. 10:01:42 EXT DAY AUGUSTA, GEORGIA MS: Professional golfer Tiger Woods tees off at the Masters Golf Tournament. CU: Woods' face after teeing off at the Masters. KOTB: Yeah. Oh. GIFFORD: I think everybody is. I mean, Tiger was struggling. He got off to a great start on Thursday and just--he deteriorated over... 10:01:46 EXT DAY AUGUSTA, GEORGIA MS: Split screen of Kotb and Gifford live on the"Today" set and a clip of Woods teeing off at the Masters. MS: Split screen of Kotb and Gifford live on the"Today" set and a clip of Woods lifting his hands up in victory at the Masters. KOTB: Well, he had some funky swings. GIFFORD: He had some weird, weird stuff going. KOTB: ...which I never thought I'd say, but they were sort of whoop, whoop. 10:01:55 EXT DAY AUGUSTA, GEORGIA MS: Split screen of Kotb and Gifford talking on the"Today" set and a clip of Woods teeing off at the Masters. MS: Split screen of Kotb and Gifford talking on the"Today" set and clip of Woods walking with his golf club over his shoulder at the Masters. GIFFORD: Yeah. Yeah. KOTB: But Phil Mickelson, I've got to tell you, this is the guy who you sort of want to model your career after when you watch him. 10:01:59 EXT DAY AUGUSTA, GEORGIA MS: Split screen of Kotb and Gifford talking on the"Today" set and a clip of professional golfer Phil Mickelson golfing at the Masters Golf Tournament. MS: Split screen of Kotb and Gifford talking on the"Today" set and a clip of Mickelson lifting his hands up in victory, and then taking the ball out of the hole at the Masters. GIFFORD: Well, he's such a fine example of a man, to me. I mean, he--his wife and his mother are battling breast cancer, as most of you know. He went up to her afterwards, I mean. 10:02:07 EXT DAY AUGUSTA, GEORGIA MS: Split screen of Kotb and Gifford talking on the"Today" set and a clip of Mickelson hugging his wife Amy Mickelson at the Masters. MS: Split screen of Kotb and Gifford talking on the"Today" set and an overhead shot of Phil Mickelson hugging Amy Mickelson at the Masters. KOTB: That hug was amazing. GIFFORD: I think the contrast between what Tiger is going through in his life and in his marriage, with this, which is a solid relationship. KOTB: Mm-hmm.GIFFORD: Several children and just, you know, they didn't--that was not for the cameras, you could tell. KOTB: No, that was for them. GIFFORD: That was--that was for them. KOTB: You could tell. 10:02:25 INT AUGUSTA, GEORGIA MS: Split screen of Kotb and Gifford speaking on the"Today" set and a clip of Phil Mickelson receiving his Masters jacket. GIFFORD: She had not been out to any of his matches... KOTB: Yeah, in 11 months. GIFFORD: ...in 11 months since her diagnosis. KOTB: Yeah. Yeah. GIFFORD: So congratulations to him. KOTB: We're so pleased for him. GIFFORD: And I saw some behavior from Tiger over the weekend that I just thought, I don't know how much he's learned about being a gentleman on the course, too. I know it's frustrating and all of that, but you know, that's what people are watching for now is to see any discernible change. KOTB: I think this is... GIFFORD: So that we know it's real... KOTB: Yeah. GIFFORD: ...his repentance. KOTB: I think that's the thing. When you are under a microscope like that, anything you say or do, any comment you make, anything... GIFFORD: Yes. I know. KOTB: ...is going to be magnified. GIFFORD: And it's not fair, but that's the way it is. KOTB: This was a weird thing. I saw this tweet come across and I thought, `This can't be right,' but it was right. OK, so Jim Carrey... GIFFORD: Mm-hmm. Who just recently broke up with Jenny McCarthy. 10:03:12 GFX: Actor Jim Carry's tweets on Woods' infidelity. KOTB: Jim Carry. Wrote this--this was his series of tweets and these were--this is what he wrote."Tiger Woods owes nothing to anyone but himself. To please his father, he gave up his childhood and his freedom in the world. That's enough." Then this is what got controversial."No wife is blind enough to miss that much infidelity. Elin had to be a willing participant on the ride for whatever reason, kids/lifestyle. No woman just stays at home with their kids anymore. Tiger was wrong and Elin was ignoring the obvious." I want to make it clear that I do not condone infidelity at all, but to some degree the responsibility for it is shared by both people." GIFFORD: That's a heck of a comment coming from somebody that's not related to it at all, right? KOTB: Anyhoo. GIFFORD: I mean, listen, I'm sure Tiger is grateful for some support, he hasn't been getting a whole lot of it, but at the same time... KOTB: What--why would you say that? GIFFORD: ...to say that Elin is responsible for everything that Tiger--or at least in some way, I have a problem with that. KOTB: And in it for--what he was saying is she was in it for the money or for status or something. GIFFORD: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Now I don't know why we have this cocktail sitting in front of us... KOTB: Because... GIFFORD: ...except for that it won some big award. KOTB: It won a huge cocktail award. GIFFORD: It's just sitting there beckoning to you. You know me, I'm not a mixed drink person. KOTB: This is the World Cocktail Champion, all right? GIFFORD: In the world, yeah. KOTB: This cocktail is called I Have Too Much Thyme on My Hands Right Now at This Point in My Life. GIFFORD: At This Point in My Life, but it's T-H-Y-M-E. KOTB: OK, so what's in here? GIFFORD: So... KOTB: Vodka? What is it, Cynar? 10:04:22 INT TODAY SHOW STUDIO MS: Gifford sips the cocktail. GIFFORD: Cynar. MS: Kotb sips the cocktail. KOTB: What is that? GIFFORD: Lime thyme syrup, apple bitters garnished with compressed apple thyme balls. KOTB: Balls. That's what it said. Anyway. GIFFORD: Congratulations to the winner. KOTB: Yes, congrats to you. GIFFORD: I... KOTB: Oh, wait, it's a big--it's a big fried chicken day. GIFFORD: It's a big fried chicken day. KOTB: KFC is introducing a new sandwich, but here's the catch. GIFFORD: A breadless. KOTB: There's no bun at all. GIFFORD: There's no bun, although the chicken's still deep fried on... KOTB: There's chicken on the outside, chicken on the top and the bottom and inside is bacon and cheese. So there's a grilled one and a fried one. GIFFORD: Two different kinds of cheese. Now this one, the fried one, has 200-540 calories, Hoda. Do you want to try that one? KOTB: Now we also found out--yes. GIFFORD: This one. KOTB: And yours has less. GIFFORD: So there's no--do you see what I'm saying? KOTB: There's no bread. GIFFORD: The chicken is the actual--what holds it together. That's two... KOTB: Well, we found out that a chicken--a McDonald's fried chicken sandwich has how many calories again? 10:05:10 INT TODAY SHOW STUDIO MS: Gifford tastes the KFC chicken sandwich. Offscreen Voice: Five-thirty. KOTB: Five-thirty. So this one has how many? Voice: Five-forty. KOTB: Five-forty. So this has 10 calories more than the one with the bread. GIFFORD: Without the bread. KOTB: So what's the point? GIFFORD: But it's got that fried--see, I mean, that's good, but for 100 extra calories... MS: Kotb tastes the KFC chicken sandwich. KOTB: Oh, this is good. GIFFORD: ...if I'm going to be bad, I'm going to go with that. KOTB: But see, I think the point of that one is you don't have the bread, but it's still got the calories. GIFFORD: I know, and 35 grams of fat--no, 23 grams of fat. All right, that's... KOTB: And lots of sodium. GIFFORD: All right. The point it's still--but it is delicious. KOTB: Mm. GIFFORD: I mean, especially if you've been watching your weight and watching your bread intake and all that. KOTB: Oh. GIFFORD: It's like, I've got to have it. KOTB: Well, I think you need to apply your favorite thing right now. GIFFORD: I do. We're going to tell you our favorite things. While I chew, why don't you go ahead. KOTB: OK. So we're going to do this every Monday, we're going to bring out our favorite things. Mine is there's a book that I have had for a while and it's called the... GIFFORD: And actually read. KOTB: It's not like yours. It's called"The Rhythm of Life." It's by Matthew Kelly. GIFFORD: Mm-hmm. KOTB: OK. When I give speeches and stuff... GIFFORD: Hm. KOTB: ...I always take this book because it has really inspiring, terrific stories in it. GIFFORD: As do other books you have not read. KOTB: What book? I've heard... GIFFORD: They have really interesting things. KOTB: I've heard about that one. OK. This is one of those ones, if you ever feel like you're too old to do something, like people say, `Oh, I'm passed my prime,' blah, blah, blah, listen to this. They say Jack Nicholas was 46 years old when he shot a 65 in the final round of the Masters. Henry Ford was 50 when he started his first manufacturing assembly line. Ray Kroc was 52-year-old milkshake machine salesman when he bought out Mac and Dick McDonald and officially started... GIFFORD: McDonald's. KOTB: ...McDonald's. Dom Perignon was 60 years old when he first produced champagne. Oscar Hammerstein II was 64 when he wrote the lyrics for"Sound of Music." That's in your...(unintelligible). GIFFORD: All right, that one you could have gotten to. KOTB: Listen. OK, Michelangelo was 72 years old when he designed the dome of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. Benjamin Franklin... GIFFORD: He started working on the art thing earlier. KOTB: Let me finish. Benjamin Franklin was 79 when he invented the bifocal. Frank Lloyd Wright was 91 years old when he completed his work at the Guggenheim. And here's this one. Dimitrion Yordanidis was 98 when he ran a marathon in seven hours and 33 minutes in Athens, Greece. It just shows you... GIFFORD: He probably died the next day. KOTB: You are such a Negative Nelly. What is wrong with you? GIFFORD: Ninety-eight years old, what's wrong with him? KOTB: He ran a marathon. GIFFORD: Good for him. KOTB: At 98. GIFFORD: How long did it take? KOTB: I told you, you don't even listen, seven hours--forget it. GIFFORD: Now I'm impressed, but... KOTB: This book... GIFFORD: ...I'd like to know how long he lived. Would you find that out for me, please? KOTB: This book is--it honestly has terrific anecdotal stories about life. When you read it, you go, `Oh, wow, that's terrific.' So get it. GIFFORD: I shouldn't make fun. KOTB: It's probably out of print."The Rhythm of Life." GIFFORD: Oh, good, out of print. KOTB: No. What? I don't know. GIFFORD: You can't have it. This is my favorite lipstick and you--and it's not out of print and you can get it. It's Janet Sartin's, the color is Neo-Nude. It's $24. You can order it at sartin.com. KOTB: What's so great about it? GIFFORD: You know how I always have lip issues, like you have hair issues? My lips are always chapped, and I don't like to wear ChapStick. And so this is the actual--the creamiest, most scrumptious lipstick I've ever had in my life. I absolutely adore it. KOTB: What is it about it? You I don't know. It just... GIFFORD: It's thick and creamy and it's just beautiful. It's a matte color. KOTB: You love it. GIFFORD: I go through one of these a day. I love these babies. KOTB: How much is it? GIFFORD: So anyway--24. You weren't listening. It's $24. Anyway, and one--a little note, there's a friend of mine who's been battling in the--this is an extraordinary story. My assistant for many years, as so many people know, we used to call her"The Warden." KOTB: Mm-hmm. GIFFORD: Her name is Mickey Farley and her son Eric has had an aneurysm since he was two years old and wasn't expected to live. KOTB: Hm. GIFFORD: He's 31--he's in his early 30s now. KOTB: Wow. GIFFORD: But he did have a terrible experience with it when he was down in North Carolina and so she said Kathie, would you--we don't usually do this, but this woman means a great deal to me and I love her son. He's at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. Now, Mickey is a psychiatric nurse herself, so she's can't--she doesn't find much good about many hospitals and many... KOTB: Mm-hmm. GIFFORD: She has never been so impressed with a medical facility in her entire life. KOTB: Wow. She loves it. Hm. GIFFORD: Her--the doctor is Dr. Hunter Dyer and there are too many nurses to mention, but thank you for taking care of not just our friend, but everybody there. KOTB: That's sweet. GIFFORD: I think we put down so many people. KOTB: Yeah, we do. GIFFORD: Once in a while when somebody's doing a phenomenal job, you've got to let people know. KOTB: I agree. GIFFORD: Yeah. KOTB: Nice. All right, Miss Sara, what's cooking over there in Facebook Land? 10:09:15 INT TODAY SHOW STUDIO MS: Kotb and Gifford are joined by"Today" correspondent Sara Haines live on the set. They discuss the viewers comments left on Facebook.com. SARA HAINES reporting: Well, that comment about Jim Carrey is sparking quite a dialogue on the wall. KOTB: Oh, I bet. What are they saying? HAINES: And by the way, it's not Drew Carey, Linda. Someone wrote in here, `Drew Carey is out of his mind.' Drew Carey is not out of his mind. KOTB: Jim Carrey. HAINES: But also, I want to remind everyone, Curtis is not feeling the love right now. KOTB: What? HAINES: This next round of Curtis goes--he's doing it to honor moms this time. KOTB: Yes, right, what do you mean? HAINES: People have to go to klgandhoda.com to put their entry in so he may come and cook for your mom. 10:09:33 GFX:"Mom's Night In With Curtis Stone" promo. KOTB: OK. This is a big deal. GIFFORD: Come on. KOTB: Curtis is going to your mother's house, OK, so they write in klg... HAINES: You could show up that day... GIFFORD: Yes. HAINES: ...and be there with Curtis Stone. KOTB: Hi. HAINES: Hello. KOTB: So klg... GIFFORD: Let me ask you this. Is it all right if we recommend our own mothers if there's nobody else out there? HAINES: Yeah. Hey, you've got to go to your Web site, klgandhoda.com. GIFFORD: That's sad. KOTB: That is terrible. Get on it. GIFFORD: That... HAINES: This is Curtis Stone. KOTB: Curtis is coming to your house. All right, coming up next, she kept millions laughing and taught little girls of the'70s to be independent. GIFFORD: Valerie Harper, what a brilliant actress. KOTB: Yes. Love her. GIFFORD: Love her, right after this.
