SAVANNAH GUTHRIE reporting: This morning on TODAY'S BEAUTY, makeup tips that can have you looking years younger. And here with a few tricks to help brighten and lift your look is makeup maven Bobbi Brown. Bobbi, good morning to you. Ms. BOBBI BROWN (TODAY Beauty Editor): Good morning. GUTHRIE: So a lot of folks think once you get older you have to wear more makeup to look younger. What are common mistakes that folks make? Ms. BROWN: Well, first of all, you--it's not about looking younger, it's about looking better. GUTHRIE: Yeah. Ms. BROWN: And it's also don't forget about... GUTHRIE: Oh, I like that. Ms. BROWN: ...how you eat and how you take care of yourself is so much as important as the concealer, but it is really important. GUTHRIE: What do you think is the first area that kind of starts to go as we age? Ms. BROWN: Well I think that skin, it's about evening out your skin tone. GUTHRIE: Yeah. Ms. BROWN: And it's also about concealer corrector. GUTHRIE: OK. Ms. BROWN: I always say that. GUTHRIE: Now we have our model Susanna. Ms. BROWN: We do. GUTHRIE: She's already got the basic makeup on. Ms. BROWN: She does. And together we realize that we're 100. GUTHRIE: Oh, you are. Ms. BROWN: I'm not telling you who's who, but we're 100. GUTHRIE: Well, you don't look a day over 40, either one of you, look beautiful. Ms. BROWN: Yeah, OK, well we--OK. GUTHRIE: OK, so let's talk about the first thing, which is plumping...(unintelligible). Ms. BROWN: First thing which is--which is plump. And I do that with a really rich moisturizer. GUTHRIE: OK. Ms. BROWN: Women forget that you get dry and you need a nice plumping moisturizer. That's first. Second, correct and conceal, which we did already... GFX: Supers “Tips & Tricks For Women Over 40: Plump With A Denser Balm Over A Light Cream, Brighten With Concealer, Pop With Blush”. (Brown applies moisturizer to model Susanna). GUTHRIE: Yeah. Ms. BROWN: ...because we only have four minutes. GUTHRIE: Yeah. Ms. BROWN: And then next you want a pop. GUTHRIE: Well wait, before we... Ms. BROWN: Because we lose--we lose color in our faces. GUTHRIE: We do. But tell us about concealer before we get to showing the pop because I think a lot of us... Ms. BROWN: Yes. GUTHRIE: ...don't know how to use it. Let's be honest. Ms. BROWN: You need a concealer that's one shade lighter than your complexion. We've already applied it on Susanna. So when we show the before and after you'll see it. GUTHRIE: OK. Ms. BROWN: But it's got to be one that's not white. It's got to be yellow in tone and so it blends into your skin tone. GUTHRIE: Do you use a mix like this? Ms. BROWN: I do. I do. We could do two hours on this. But first it's like a pinky one that is a corrector, and then a concealer is a little bit of yellow. And that goes--lay--gets layered and it's huge, huge difference. (Brown displays concealers). GUTHRIE: OK. Now to pop. Ms. BROWN: OK. To pop. Now cream blush is a perfect thing as we get older and I like to use color because what happens is you get a little bit washed out. (Brown applies blush to Susanna’s cheeks and lips). GUTHRIE: Yeah. Ms. BROWN: And you don't need a lot, and it goes on the apple of the cheek. You could use a powder blush also, but there's something nice as we get older about having a little bit of glow. GUTHRIE: And did you--is it the cream blush that gives more of that glow as opposed to the matte look? Ms. BROWN: Definitely. GUTHRIE: How cute are you, Susanna? Ms. BROWN: And you can always--isn't she beautiful? Relax for a second. You can always use a product like this on the lip, and I'm not using beige. GUTHRIE: Mm-hmm. Ms. BROWN: Like a lot of women as they get older might put a beige lipstick on and wonder why they look washed out. GUTHRIE: OK. Ms. BROWN: Color, pretty. GUTHRIE: OK. So next is to define our look, and we use eyeliner. This is another toughy. Ms. BROWN: Yes, definitely we used eyeliner on Susanna and a little bit of shading on the lid is important, especially those of us that have a little bit more deep-set eyes. GFX: Supers “Tips & Tricks For Women Over 40: Define With Eye Liner, Define By Grooming Your Brows”. GUTHRIE: Yeah. Ms. BROWN: So Susanna doesn't need it as much, but I also wanted to show you--we did one eyebrow. GUTHRIE: OK. Ms. BROWN: This is define. OK, so doing your brows is huge. And what I'm using is a slanted hard brush and a powder, and it gets applied at the inside of the eyebrow. (Brown applies makeup to Susanna’s eyebrow). GUTHRIE: Mm-hmm. Ms. BROWN: And many of us lose definition in the eyebrows and you just want to give a nice little arch. And by giving yourself the arch, you're also like opening up your eye. GUTHRIE: Are you trying to match your hair color? Ms. BROWN: You are absolutely trying to match your hair color... GUTHRIE: OK. Ms. BROWN: ...because a lot of women will do one that's too dark and they'll also do one that is too red. And I'll just show you the big difference. GUTHRIE: Yep. Ms. BROWN: Ta-da! GUTHRIE: Looks beautiful. Now... Ms. BROWN: And look at how pretty she looks. GUTHRIE: I know, but she started pretty, that doesn't--that doesn't... Ms. BROWN: She started pretty. GUTHRIE: OK, our final finishing touch is a pop of gloss? Ms. BROWN: Yeah. Yes. A pop of gloss, yes. And gloss is great because it just kind of gives you a really nice--a nice lift and a nice shine and it makes your lips fuller. And many of us, as we get older, your lips are not as full as they were. (Brown applies lip gloss to Susanna). GUTHRIE: Mm-hmm. Ms. BROWN: So a nice little bit of shine. GUTHRIE: She has that gorgeous dewy look. Now we have a before picture of you, Susanna. And let's show it again for our... STILL: Insert before photo of Susanna. Ms. BROWN: Right, I mean... GUTHRIE: OK, so she starts out gorgeous. Ms. BROWN: Now she starts out pretty but, you know... GUTHRIE: Now let's see our after, final. Ms. BROWN: Let's see our after. Ta-da! GFX: Split screen insert before photo of Susanna and live shot of Susanna after makeup. GUTHRIE: Yeah. Nice pop of color. Ms. BROWN: So--but it's about natural. We--every woman wants to look natural and you want to look like your best self. GUTHRIE: And you both do, actually. Ms. BROWN: Ah. As do you. GUTHRIE: Bobbi Brown, thank you. And, Susanna, thanks for being our model. Ms. BROWN: Thank you.
