If you’re tired of the same old look that you’ve had for the last five years or so. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: What are you saying? HODA KOTB: 2013 is all about change. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: From new trends in hair color to the must-have anti-ageing creams, beauty and style expert Jenn Falik has some funky ideas— HODA KOTB: Funky. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: --that she just started. HODA KOTB: Hey, girl. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: How are you? Kotb and Gifford are joined by beauty & style expert Jenn Falik live in the Today New York studio. JENN FALIK: I’m good. How are you guys? HODA KOTB: We’re good. We’re good. JENN FALIK: So one thing for you. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: So what’s going on? JENN FALIK: Okay. So New Year, new trends, crazy new products— HODA KOTB: Okay. JENN FALIK: We’re starting with a beauty bargain. This is three dollars and fifty cents. It’s from Essence. It’s a volumizing lash powder. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Oh, I need that. JENN FALIK: It’s a little crazy looking. You put on one coat of mascara, take any mascara, make into-- this is almost like a ground up pillow, it’s like a cloud. Put this on your lashes. Falik displays Essence volumizing lash powder. GFX: Supers “Beauty Breakthroughs: Essence Volumizing Powder For Lashes $3.50, Ulta.com”. HODA KOTB: After the mascara? JENN FALIK: After the mascara, then another coat of mascara and you have major volume. It’s like a hair volumizer but for your lashes, easy to use. HODA KOTB: Oh. Does it come off easily when you take it off? JENN FALIK: Comes off without makeup remover. HODA KOTB: Okay. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Is it possible to be allergic to that? Should people have-- do a test of some kind? JENN FALIK: You do want to do test. And if you wear contacts, be careful. I wear contacts. It’s fine for me, but, you know, give it a try. HODA KOTB: Okay. Let’s talk about the nails. What’s the new trend in nails? JENN FALIK: So the first trend which we’re demoing over here is magnetic nails. This is from Essie. And if there’s magnetic particles in the polish, you get a snake skin effect. Check that out. It’s awesome. You do one coat— HODA KOTB: Yeah. JENN FALIK: --put the magnet right over your nail for five seconds and— HODA KOTB: Put the magnet-- oh, so it makes a pattern. JENN FALIK: Yeah. It makes a pattern and pulls off the magnetic particles. So this is really cool. And we also now see tinted foundation for your nails. GFX: Supers “Beauty Breakthroughs: Magnetic Nail Polish $11.25, Essie.com”. HODA KOTB: Wow. JENN FALIK: Butter London has come out with a tinted foundation. It’s matte. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: What do you mean tinted? JENN FALIK: So it’s-- I have it on my nail right here. It’s matte. It makes your nail look nude but better because as we age, our nails age, they get more brittle. This covers up imperfections— GFX: Supers “Beauty Breakthroughs: Nail Foundation $18.00, ButterLondon.com”. Falik displays nail foundation. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Okay. JENN FALIK: --and the brand RGB has something for all different skin tones because my nude isn’t everyone else’s nude so this way you can all have— GFX: Supers “Beauty Breakthroughs: Hippx Nail Color $16.00, RGBCosmetics.com”. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: My nude is— HODA KOTB: I hate my nude. JENN FALIK: This way everyone can have (unintelligible). KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: I haven’t seen my nude in thirty years. JENN FALIK: Well, here we go. This can work some miracles. Take a little bottle. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Thought that was funny, huh? It’s not that’s funny. HODA KOTB: All right. JENN FALIK: For hair— KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Yes. JENN FALIK: --Ombre has been such a trend. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Ombre. JENN FALIK: I love it. HODA KOTB: You do love it? JENN FALIK: I think it looks cool. Falik displays L’Oreal hair products. HODA KOTB: Okay. JENN FALIK: I’m not cool enough necessarily to pull it off— KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: No you’re not. JENN FALIK: --works great on her. JENN FALIK: I’m definitely not. I-- I know my limits but I think it’s gorgeous. GFX: Supers “Beauty Breakthroughs: L’Oreal Paris Feria Wild Ombre $12.99, Drugstores Nationwide”. HODA KOTB: Busted. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: You are a girl next door. Adorable is what you are. JENN FALIK: Thank you. I tried this once and I actually love the look, but I love that you can do it at home. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: It’s, kind of, edgy. JENN FALIK: This is from L’Oreal. It’s coming out in February. HODA KOTB: Mm-Hm. JENN FALIK: And this is a little preview, you brush it on dry hair. She left hers on for thirty minutes to get this look, but you can go as natural or as dramatic as you want. HODA KOTB: And wash it right out? JENN FALIK: And wash it right out. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Oh, great. JENN FALIK: It’s so easy. HODA KOTB: What? JENN FALIK: When your hair is dry, right now if you want the Ombre— KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Yeah, that’s what I have been waiting for all my life. JENN FALIK: Just brush it in. HODA KOTB: Ombre. JENN FALIK: Here we got the big moment. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Yeah. JENN FALIK: So this is easy, coming out next month— HODA KOTB: (Unintelligible) would look like a mistake— KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Yes. HODA KOTB: --don’t you think if we did it? KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Well, for you. HODA KOTB: Stop it. That’s rude. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Having a little fun here. HODA KOTB: Is this segment over? JENN FALIK: We have now, glow in the dark— HODA KOTB: Oh, no. JENN FALIK: --lipstick. This is from Stila. It’s coming out in March. Falik displays glow in the dark lipstick. HODA KOTB: Is it really glow in the dark? JENN FALIK: It glows under a black light. It has got three times the color pigments. GFX: Supers “Beauty Breakthroughs: Stila After Glow Lip Color $18.00, Sephora.com”. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: How kinky is that? HODA KOTB: Under a black light. JENN FALIK: So, if you’re going out clubbing, when you ladies go clubbing— KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Okay, that’s what— JENN FALIK: --take this with you. Everyone will notice you. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Actually, I'm going out clubbing in L.A. next week— HODA KOTB: Oh, you should wear it. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: --so I should wear my lips. JENN FALIK: You-- it’s such a fun different way to, kind of, play up your makeup at night and during the day, it’s just super bright. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Okay. HODA KOTB: Okay. JENN FALIK: Three times the color particles— HODA KOTB: Right. JENN FALIK: --coming out in March. HODA KOTB: Talk to us about Copper. JENN FALIK: Copper that is the new anti-aging, sort of hot ingredient for 2013. Yes, it’s in pennies. The products will cost you a pretty penny, but it makes your skin stronger. HODA KOTB: That was cute, what you just said. JENN FALIK: I know. HODA KOTB: Yeah. That’s cute. Falik displays anti-aging products. JENN FALIK: You know, I try. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: I’m just now getting that. Boy, that’s funny. GFX: Supers “Beauty Breakthroughs: Osmotic Blue Copper 5 Collection From $30.00, Nordstrom.com”. JENN FALIK: I try to bring out the good sound bites for you, ladies. HODA KOTB: Uh-Huh. JENN FALIK: With-- what’s great about Copper is it makes your skin stronger. So, it’s a lot of times it’s being used for wound care and for healing. HODA KOTB: Oh. JENN FALIK: It makes your skin stronger, so in turn you can probably produce more collagen. Osmotics has a whole line of Blue Copper, and then this is really great from DermaChromatic for redness. If you want to get rid of redness, copper is going to help. And then at the same time, it’s going to make your skin stronger and— Falik displays DermaChromatic products. GFX: Supers “Beauty Breakthroughs: DermaChromatic Anti-Redness Skin Tone Enhancer $49.00, PrecisionMDSkin.com”. HODA KOTB: Okay. JENN FALIK: --you look younger.
