London 2012 Olympic Games security: Theresa May interview; ENGLAND: London: INT Theresa May MP (Home Secretary) SOT - govt and everybody wants to deliver a safe Olympic and Paralympic games that everyone can enjoy / have visited Olympic co-ordination centre at Met Police and announced testing and exercising programme that we will be doing over next year in run-up to games to make sure our plans are robust - The planning is done on the basis of a severe threat level / severe threat level we have nationally at moment means attack is highly likely and everyone must remain vigilant / we've planned on that basis for Olympic and Paralympic games / been ensuring we have in place arrangements / will be testing and exercising those arrangements to learn from them / those will not just involve police and other emergency services - will involve govt departments, LOCOG and other agencies like UK border agency to make sure we are as rigorous as we can be to have right security arrangements in place - Have national threat level which is severe and we have been planning on that threat level / the Olympic and Paraolympic games are major event / we are ensuring we can provide right level of safety and security - (phone hacking) allegations are shocking / right they should be investigated / police should take the allegations wherever the evidence leads them - allegations of hacking into Milly Dowler's phone are shocking / should be investigated with vigour / any investigations should be investigated and police should go as far as evidence takes them Q: re cuts affecting Olympic safety - We are asking the police to make cuts in their budgets / the cuts are challenging, believe they are achievable / we know significant savings can be made from back office functions / savings can be made without affecting the front line service / convinced their will be right level of resilience in police force to deliver what is necessary for safety and security of games Q: pho...
