Gerry Adams worries about political polarization, British engagement

Former Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams speaks at a public forum at the Library of Congress on the 20th anniversary of the Good Friday agreement, telling the audience that a political impasse was deeply worrying and he was concerned about polarization in Northern Ireland. Adams says there must be space for Unionists, Nationalists, Republicans and others to moderate and argue differences, very very clear that the Good Friday agreement remains the bedrock for any progress, its success and durability lying in the recognition that piece is a process and not an event. Adams says success was because they never give up, Sinn Féin leadership was not giving up, trust and equality must be built. Adams says the British government must honor its commitments, though it was easy for the British Prime Minister to stand up with soft words, but bereaved families of victims of British action and the IRA deserve the right to an inquest.
