Riots: David Cameron visits Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue and Police services

Riots: David Cameron visits Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue and Police services; Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service officers stood by fire engine / Cameron shaking hands and speaking with firefighters / Blears meeting firefighters David Cameron MP (Prime Minister) interview SOT - Well first of all let may pay tribute on behalf of the whole country to the bravery that police officers have shown up and down this country, they are a thin blue line, they work on our behalf ... It is important we learn lessons from what happened, clearly there was a need for more on the streets, a need to change tactics and I think it was right the police took those decisions and changed those tactics and increased the number of police officers / Where I think the government and the police worked well together was through the COBRA emergency planning committee, helps the police by showing that there was political backing to the changes they wanted to make, they had the political support, and the government and parliament, and other political parties behind them / It showed government coming together and making sure we work the whole system, making the criminal justice system work faster, getting justice quicker .... but clearly there is still a lot more to be done - I certainly haven't done that, I have said the police are incredibly brave, they were brave ... every day of every year... I have huge respect for our police, huge respect for the British policing model, policing by consent ... but clearly we needed to act this week to get control of the streets, get them back for the law-abiding, the police did that, did change their tactics, did increase police numbers, that was the right thing to do, and through COBRA they had the political support ... to get on and do that
