Conservative Party Conference: Boris Johnson, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Michael Bloomberg speeches; Boris Johnson MP speech SOT - I want to give hope to all those who feel they have lost the basic right to get to work on time / by building Crossrail now and repairing the tube and upgrading the tube / and bringing an end / as I think my friend Eric has already mentioned / to the jack-knifing, traffic-blocking, self-combusting, cyclist-crushing bendy buses / and yes, I do want a greener London and a more beautiful London and a more environmentally-friendly London where more trees are being planted than are being cut down / and I want us all to have the confidence to cycle / and if we cycle and if our bicycles are stolen as mine has been stolen seven times in the last 7 years of this current administration in London / at one stage stealing my saddle to what [unrecognisable] end I cannot imagine / I want to expand Wandsworth's work of restorative justice where people who have had their bike stolen can come and get a new one from the police pound / and actually talk face to face with the miscreants who have been engaged in bicycle theft / My friends, people say the mayor has no power / They say he is just a figurehead / Well I say nonsense / They cannot possible have studied the enormous budgets he wields and they cannot have studied the way he is increasing year on year his take from the people of London / and Ken Livingstone and Gordon Brown / these yoke-mates of destiny / have got to realise that they cannot continue to tax and bully us in this way and deliver so little in return / and it's time to build on the record of Conservative councils / the growing number of Conservative Councils across London who have found savings and shown that there is another way / They have kept council tax low while they have created safer, cleaner and greener streets / And if they can do it then so can I / and over the next few months I will be working with them on crunching the ...
