Elderly coronavirus patient overcomes disease - so do his daughter and grandson

CANAKKALE, TURKEY - APRIL 15: An 88-year-old man in northwestern Turkey has recently overcome the COVID-19 disease and has been discharged from the hospital as the healthcare staff applauded him as he left. Together with him, Huseyin Ozturk, his daughter Zahide Uslu, 65, and grandson Mehmet Uslu, 39, were also discharged from the hospital after they recovered from coronavirus. The family members were under a 10-day treatment at the hospital's intensive care unit in Can district of Canakkale province. "What we went through was very difficult. We came here as four people, but now we are three, as my father died. We are still so happy," Mehmet Uslu said. His father Ilhan Uslu was also under treatment, however he failed in his fight against the deadly virus. "Here, we have seen the pain and the disease, as well as help and care from the doctors. May Allah bless them all," mother, Zahide Uslu said. Despite her hypertension and chronic lung disease, copd [chronic obstructive pulmonary disease], she managed to overcome coronavirus. "Even my father could overcome it. Here at the hospital, we celebrated his birthday on April 5," she said. "I am 88 years old, and they took care of us very well here. Thanks all," grandfather, Huseyn Ozturk said. They all thanked the hospital staff for their assistance as they were sent home amid a round of claps by medical staff. Patients who recover from COVID-19 are discharged from hospitals with a mandatory social isolation and 14-day home quarantine. So far, a total of 4,799 have recovered and been discharged from hospitals in Turkey. The death toll has increased to 1,403, with the number of cases standing at 65,111.
