The torta ahogada (drowned submarine sandwich) is a specialty dish from the Mexican state of Jalisco. It is traditionally made with a birote bread roll, roast pork, garnished with pickled red onion, and soaked with a sauce of tomatoes and chile de árbol. This version is vegetarian, substituting fried falafel, and omitting the roast pork.
