The flag of Vatican City was officially adopted in 1929, coinciding with the signing of the Lateran Treaty by Pope Pius XI and Italy, establishing Vatican City as a new independent state under the governance of the Holy See. This flag features a vertical bicolor design consisting of yellow and white stripes, with the white half emblazoned with the coat of arms of Vatican City, which includes a papal tiara and the crossed keys of Saint Peter. Its design draws inspiration from the flag of the Papal States from 1808, which also featured a yellow-and-white bicolor pattern with the tiara and keys positioned at the center.
