This mosaic plaque / wall mural is part of the Peace Garden in the Canons Recreation Ground, Mitcham in Merton, England. This detail highlights the use of tesserae, shaped and coloured pieces that go to form the mosaic. The plaque was unveiled as part of Peace Week in 2009 during the Peace Garden naming ceremony. The Merton Partnership has three main aims: bringing together diverse communities to participate in varied activities; developing a greater understanding and respect of each other; and contributing to the quality of life of the people of Merton.
