Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi - Il Nilo in bianco e nero - stock photo

The Fountain of the Four Rivers is located in Rome at the center of Piazza Navona (in front of the church of St. Agnes in Agone) and has been designed and molded by the sculptor and architect Gian Lorenzo Bernini between July 1648 and June 1651 in full Baroque time. The Fountain of the Four Rivers realizes the extraordinary support for the roman copy of an Egyptian obelisk from the Circus of Maxentius. Four colossal figures personify the great rivers of four continents: the Nile, the Ganges, the Danube and the Rio de la Plata. The fountain is crowned by the dove of the Holy Spirit - the emblem of Pope Innocent X, who commissioned the work. n the photo you can see the Nile River statue work of 1650 by Giacomo Antonio Fancelli. Shot from the back an in black and white.
