TASTE BUD--Contains TASTE RECEPTORS (SENSORY RECEPTORS or Chemoreceptors), TONGUE, 100X. This single Taste Bud is located on the side of a raised area of the tongue called a Papilla. Taste Buds are embedded in Stratified Squamous Epithelium which covers the tongue and lines the oral cavity. The opening of the taste bud is very evident and is called a TASTE PORE (small circular structure). Sensory Neurons are associated with the taste buds carrying sensory (afferent) nerve impulses to the central nervous system.
