The Collegiate Church of Santa María la Mayor, could be built on an ancient pre-Romanesque temple of the same name, under the reign of Fernando II de León. It is a voluminous temple in which different ways of approaching construction are appreciated, due to the fact that it passed through different architects. The first is due, the head, the lower area of ​​the outer walls and the front of the north facade. Limestone was used in a light grayish shade. The second is the remains of exterior walls and the covering of the central nave, including the dome, the tower and the western portico. Reddish sandstone was used for it. By 1240 the western portico would be built and not long afterwards the Cover of Majesty. In the following century, the parish of Santo Tomé would be attached to the feet. Its northern façade stands out, one of the most decorated of the Romanesque Zamora, as well as the dome that rises above the transept, with influences from the cathedrals of Salamanca and Zamora, but with Mudejar elements, typical of the land.
