circa 1785: William Pitt, the Younger (1759-1806). English politician. Second son of William Pitt, the Elder, at 24 years, he became chancellor of the exchequer, first lord of the treasury and Britain's youngest prime minister 1783-1801 and 1804-06. His ministry saw war with Revolutionary France and with Napoleon I, passage of the Sedition Bill, income tax, suppression of the Irish Uprising of 1798 and the Act of Union with Ireland 1801.
