Erich Ollenhauer Speaking to Crowd
(Original Caption) West German Social Democratic Party leader Erich Ollenhauer urges citizens to vote in the West Berlin city parliament elections at a rally in the British Sector. In the election December 5th, the Social Democrats outpaced Chancellor Konrad Adenauers Christian Democrats and seven other parties, apparently winning about 44% of the total votes cast. Upon completion of counting, December 6th, the West Berlin City Hall announced that 64 seats in the new Parliament had been allocated to the Social Democrats, 44 to the Christian Democrats, and 19 to the Free Democrats - a gain of three seats for the Social Democrats, and 10 seats for Adenauer's party.
