People On A Makeshift Vessel During The Cuban Raft Exodus

View of people on a makeshift raft during the Cuban Raft Exodus, off the coast of Cuba, August 21, 1994. A second raft is visible further out in the water. Following anti-government protests, Fidel Castro's government announced that the Coast Guard would allow citizens to leave the country resulting in over 35,000 people departing, many in similar homemade vessels, in the nation's largest exodus since the Mariel boatlift in 1980.
