Undated picture of French designer Christian Dior, in front of an Air France plane, before leaving Paris to Copenhagen. Born 21 January 1905 in Granville, France, Dior arrived in Paris in 1919. He studied political sciences. In 1937 he worked for Piguet and in 1941 for Lelong with Pierre Balmain. In 1945 Marcel Boussac, a major textile manufacturer proposed to Dior to create his own fashion house, which was inaugurated 15 December 1946. Dior presented his first collection during spring 1947.
