The special envoy of UN secretary-genera...

GUIGLO, IVORY COAST: The special envoy of UN secretary-general to Ivory Coast, Abu Mussa (R), sets on fire weapons 19 May 2007 returned by fighters of the pro-government rebel Resistance Forces of the Greater West (FRGO) in the western city of Guiglo. Militias in the south and west of the country took up arms in September 2002 to defend Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo. Ivory Coast had been sliced in half since 2002 when then a military officer Guillaume Soro mounted a failed coup against Gbagbo. After several mediation attempts by France, the United Nations, the African Union and a West African regional bloc failed, Gbagbo and Soro finalized their own peace deal 04 March 2007. Under the agreement, Soro became prime minister in a transitional government. AFP PHOTO / ISSOUF SANOGO (Photo credit should read ISSOUF SANOGO/AFP via Getty Images)
