Dr. Ernest Borlaug Nobel Prize Winner
The 1970 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded Oct. 21st to Dr. Ernest Borlaug, a native of Cresco, Iowa, for his research into new types of wheat that would help the world's hunger problem. Borlaug, 56, is the head of the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center in Mexico City. Borlaug is shown in a 1968 file photo recording the vigor and stage of growth of wheat in his breeding plot in Mexico.
