Aftermath Of War In Amhara Region's Historical Wollo Province
NORTH WOLLO, ETHIOPIA - JANUARY 12: A tank reportedly destroyed by drone fire sits on the side of the A2 road between Mersa and the village of Libso on January 12, 2022 in North Wollo, Ethiopia. Numerous towns and cities line the A2 road that stretches from Addis Ababa to Mekelle. In July of 2021 the Tigray Peoples Liberation Front (TPLF) invaded the Amhara and Afar regions after the Ethiopian Government called for a unilateral cease-fire after 8 months of war. As the TPLF invaded the regions, they committed numerous atrocities along with large scale looting and destruction of resources in particular in the Amhara and Afar regions. During the course of the war to retake the Amhara and Afar regions, drones provided a significant strategic advantage against the TPLF. When this tank was destroyed a witness stated that the explosion was so intense that it launched the tanks turret several feet into the air before it came to rest to over 30 feet away. (Photo by J.
