Ralph Boston Performing Record Breaking Jump at Olympics
(Original Caption) Ralph Boston of Nashville, Tennessee, officially breaking the world's long jump record in the final U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials is shown with a jump of 27 feet, 4 1/4 inches, with an allowable trailing wind of only one meter per second. Earlier he got off a tremendous jump of 27-10 1/4. This would not count as a record, however, because of a trailing wind that was too strong. The world mark of 27 3 1/4 was currently shared by Boston and Igor Ovanesyen of Russia.
