Israel resumed intense strikes on the Gaza Strip on March 18, collapsing a truce with the Palestinians Hamas movement brokered by the US, Egypt, and Qatar that took effect on January 19 and saw the return of 33 Israeli hostages in exchange for the release of around 1,800 Palestinian detainees. Since then, more than 1,500 people have been killed, according to the health ministry in the Palestinian territory to which Israel cut off aid more than a month earlier.
