Las Vegas, Nevada: Observing the first detonation over the Yucca flats area yesterday as the first atom device was dropped from a high flying bomber are Everett Holles, left, assistant to chairman of the AEC and Lewis L. Strauss, chairman of the AEC. They are at the control point overlooking ground zero. Yesterday's blast launched the long delayed opening of the series of '55 nuclear tests. The device was dropped at noon, 3 p.m., in high winds and snow.
