Black Students Walking to Integrated School
(Original Caption) Nine Negro students entered Little Rock Central High School for the fifth straight day as federalized National Guard troops took over patrolling duties outside the school while troops of the 101st Airborne Infantry retired to their bivouac areas. This scene shows the Negro students as they walked to the school entrance without an escorting guard. Carlotta Walls, one of the nine, turns to chat with Elizabeth Eckford (in plaid skirt).
