Maynard Jackson, the 35 year-old lawyer, is the picture of confidence at a press conference in Atlanta, October 3rd, at which time he predicted that he will win in the runoff election for Mayor of Atlanta. Jackson was elected on October 16th. When inaugurated in January, he became the first Black mayor of a major Southern city and also the first Black politician to preside over a state capital anywhere in the United States.
