(Original Caption) Los Angeles, California: John Pennel at the Los Angeles Coliseum just after he set a world record 17-feet, 6 1/4 inches pole vault in the Los Angeles International Games. Pennel would not have patrticipated in today's meet if it had run as the dual USA-USSR meet as originally scheduled, as he did not qualify for the Russian event. He was invited after the Russians pulled out of the meet. July 23, 1966.
