A laboratory assistant homogenises sperm in order to produce a spermogram at the Centre for the Study and Conservation of Human Eggs and Sperm (Centres d'etude et de conservation des ufs et du sperme humains - CECOS) at the university hospital (CHU) of Rennes, western France, on March 12, 2024. On March 13, 2024, 1.100 vials containing frozen sperm stored in vats of liquid nitrogen were transported from Renne's University hospital (CHU) bound for Lille's University hospital, with two more shipments of 3.000 and 8.000 respectively to follow. The CECOS is experiencing a boom since the August 2, 2021 bioethic bill authorizing single women or women in same-sex couples to undertake Assisted Human Repoduction, driving demand for sperm donations.
