International Court of Justice's (ICJ) President Hisashi Owada (2ndL) leads the trial of the declaration of independence of Kosovo, on July 22, 2010 in the Peace Palace in The Hague. ICJ judges decided by 10 votes to four that "the declaration of independence of Kosovo adopted on 17 February 2008 did not violate international law." The ICJ stated a non-binding opinion on the legality of Kosovo�s secession. The opinion was requested by Serbia through the UN General Assembly. Belgrade claimed that Kosovo violated international laws protecting its sovereignty when it declared independence in 2008.
