UK Government Blocks Greenpeace Boulder Dropping Action
POOLE, ENGLAND - SEPTEMBER 08: Greenpeace ship Arctic Sunrise in Poole harbour, on September 08, 2022 in Poole, England. Greenpeace UK's sea-bed boulder barrier is designed to make the fishing practice of bottom-trawling in the area impossible. The organisation dropped 18 boulders on Thursday 1 September and had hoped to return to the same area to extend the barrier with eight more boulders to help prevent industrial fishing boats from operating in the area and preserve fish for local, sustainable trawlers. The UK government's Marine Management Organisation (MMO) threatened Poole Harbour Commission with legal action if they allowed the boulders into port. (Photo by Finnbarr Webster/Getty Images)
