Argentine First Lady Eva Peron

Eva "Evita" Peron (1919-1952), was a radio and screen actress before her marriage to Argentine president Juan Peron. As first lady, she participated in the government as a powerful voice of the people. Her work in health and labor reform was largely responsible for the public's loyalty to the Peron regime, and made the Perons many enemies in the higher classes. After her early death of cancer her husband lost much of his support and was exiled from the country. Her body was stolen by political enemies and hidden in Italy until 1976.
