Senate Appropriations
UNITED STATES - SEPTEMBER 15: SENATE APPROPRIATIONS--During the markup on FY2005 appropriations, Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., introduces an amendment that would end certain types of student college loans that guarantee lenders a higher-return rate than other federally subsidized loans, costing the government hundreds of millions of dollars. Chairman Stevens emphatically protested that Murray's amendment was not properly crafted, saying that Murray should work out the issue with Judd Gregg, chairman of the Health, Labor, Education and Pensions Committee, whose panel handles jurisdiction of the issue. There was agreement on both sides for staff to work out the details. (Photo by Scott J. Ferrell/Congressional Quarterly/Getty Images)
