Roy Campanella Saying Goodbye to Ebbets Field
(Original Caption) 2/23/1966-Brooklyn, NY: Alone on the playing field that once echoed with cheers for him and other Dodger stars, Roy Campanella sits in his wheelchair at Ebbets Field. Roy, who retired after an auto accident two years ago, was among several former Dodger greats on hand for the sad ceremonies at which the demolition of Ebbets Field was begun. Campanella, who caught the last game Brooklyn played at the park (9/24/1957), took home his old #39 uniform and a handfull of dirt from around home plate.
